With a name like Sunshine Coast you can be assured of balmy Queensland weather at any time! Boasting magical summers and mild winters, the Sunshine Coast is a popular year round holiday destination for its beautiful scenery, array of recreational activities, great shopping and amazing wildlife.
Then again, perhaps it’s the overriding beach culture that makes this such a great place to relax? There are certainly numerous beautiful beaches where you can do just that! Stay for a week and you can visit a different beach every day if you like. Some of the best beaches in our opinion for swimming or a spot of surfing are: Kings Beach, Noosa Heads, Coolum, Maroochydore and Sunshine Beach.
If you love the great outdoors but prefer firm ground under your heels rather than a surfboard, then check out the Sunshine Coast’s Hinterland. The Blackall Range offers scenic walking trails that range from half-day saunters to full-day tramps. The area is dotted with cosy bed and breakfasts so you can even extend your adventure into an overnight stay. Further south the Glass House Mountains are also a treasured area to visit for their Aboriginal history, panoramic views and scenic accommodation options.
Travelling with kids? The Sunshine Coast is the perfect place for family-friendly fun! Wildlife attractions such as Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo will have them getting up close and personal with koalas and kangaroos – don’t miss the crocodile show! UnderWater World is another fascinating place to take little ones. This marine park in Mooloolaba is home to stingrays, seals, sharks and plenty of other sea creatures to keep them spellbound.
Some fun day trips to do when visiting the Sunshine Coast include: the iconic Big Pineapple (a plantation farm with a train ride, market and a small animal zoo), Aussie World (an old fashioned theme park with lots of rides) and The Ginger Factory (a working producer of ginger products with tours, rides and shopping). Tip: buy some stomach settling ginger before heading to Aussie World!
Speaking of worlds, the Sunshine Coast has the best of both. Where else can you combine culture with nature in such a seamless way? Check out Noosa National Park right next to the fashionable shopping strip of Hastings Street and you’ll see what we mean! Sit back, relax and enjoy the fresh, clean natural environment of the Sunshine Coast but don’t forget to pamper yourself with a beauty spa, upmarket restaurant meal or some retail therapy!
